One of the biggest reasons I hear that people avoid the gym is the fear that goes “I’m afraid I’m not doing it right and other people will think I’m dumb”. My goal is to help you get over that fear so that you can claim a life of your choosing and your life will be made better as a result of it.
If you don’t know what you’re doing that fear of judgement is actually terrifying.
Mixed in with the fact that people think they will be crucified on some famous Instagram page (i.e GymFails) or somewhere on TikTok or Facebook these fears seem to be an actual possibility.
I’d be lying if I said it couldn’t happen. BUT! Chances are actually pretty slim that other people are that interested in what you’re doing. Let alone that you’re doing an exercise SOOO wrong that you end up on one of these pages.
Okay, I get it. This isn’t enough to get you to pursue a life you hope for, dream of, or daydream about. How about the fact that most people in the gym only have a rough idea of what they should be doing and even more of them have no clue at all and decide to just “use the machines” or “do cardio”. Nothing wrong with that. In fact I encourage the idea that if you don’t know what to do that you should do things that you can be successful at. If that’s all you know how to do, then do it! Your long term success is predicated on your long string of consistent actions. If you’re successful once you’re that much more likely to do it again.
You probably expect to hear this from me but just hear me out. If you don’t know what to do in the gym what to you do? Watch some YouTube videos? Find some workout programs online or in an app? Great! This program could be well designed for someone with slightly above average control of their body, but what about you? Is it a good fit for you? Do these movements make you feel successful? Do you feel like you’re accomplishing what you’re supposed to? Is it pain free?
Alright, enough questions. I feel strongly that everyone should hire a coach when they start the gym. This initial invest will help them to achieve so much more in the long run because of the number of skills the clients gain in such a short period of time. These skills range from how to perform a range of exercises, how to progress the exercises, what exercises are likely to help them reach their goals, how to train to avoid injuries, and much more.
What would it be like to have that much knowledge? How freeing would it be to enter a gym knowing what to do, how to do it, and how it will help you hit your goals? It’d be AMAZING! C’mon, I know you’re trying to restrain your enthusiasm but you know that once you do this your life is changed for the better.
Imagine a life where you had the energy to do all the thing you enjoy. A life where you are strong enough to function independently as an adult with having to ask someone for help. What would it be like to comfortably fit into clothes that you haven’t fit in a while? These are real outcomes for real people who had the same fears as you. The best way to get over that fear is to find a qualified coach and begin to gain the knowledge that gives you long term freedom.
You deserve the life you dream of. You just have to make yourself a priority. Make a change today!
